Spain - In the early 1970s, Agustí Roig decided to start up in the poultry industry by establishing his first farm, which housed 10,000 laying hens. A few years later, after the success of his first installation, a second facility was launched in 1977, accommodating over 250,000 hens.

As time progressed, additional farms were incorporated, bringing the total to eight. These included around 45 production sheds that accommodate over 1 million hens, all located in the Ebro Lands.

Their dedication to animal welfare and sustainability is clear, as showcased by their 'happy hens' initiative launched in 2012, when they began transitioning their farms to cage-free systems.

Hevo Group

In 2022, Hevo Group was established in collaboration with DAGU S.A. and Granja AGAS, with the goal of becoming a leader in the poultry sector. The group aims to drive the transformation of the Spanish poultry farming model towards more animal-friendly and environmentally sustainable production practices.

The most recent addition to this group of producers is Avícola Larrabe, which joined in August 2024. This brings the total number of hens across the four companies to 3.8 million, resulting in over 80 million dozen eggs produced annually.

First installation with Vencomatic Group

In 2017, after evaluating various systems from multiple suppliers, they chose Vencomatic Group's Grando Nest for its straightforward design and over 40 years of expertise in cage-free systems. For their farm in La Galera, where they currently have 12 houses housing a total of 36,000 organic hens.

Last installation at the packing centre

In March 2024, the Prinzen 100 packer was installed at the Barberana site alongside the Palletiser 110, with the goal of enhancing the packing process and minimizing the labour time needed.
There are five cage-free houses, each housing 30,000 hens, along with an additional cage-free house that accommodates 150,000 hens. This results in a total of 300,000 hens.

“Every day, approximately 150,000 eggs from the cage-free houses are processed by the Prinzen 100, after which they are organized onto pallets using the Palletiser 110."

By adding this packing line to enhance efficiency, they have minimized the empty gaps that previously occurred, resulting in a savings of around 1.5 hours of work in this production facility, which employs approximately 50 workers.

‘We expect the machine to pay for itself in a year and a half or two, so if it is confirmed it will be a success.’

Ous Roig initially had concerns regarding the palletiser, as they had no prior experience with this type of equipment on their farms. However, they soon discovered its ease of use, along with its reliability and safety features.

At first, we were a bit apprehensive about how the two machines would connect. Fortunately, they synchronize perfectly.

I believe the key to our success is that the machine handles 100 cases, while the palletizer can manage 110 cases, which brings us some relief.

“Everything operates very smoothly, and we are very satisfied.”
